Board Chair

Guide a clean-tech company with global impact potential. Join NILO as their next Board Chair.

NILO is a clean-tech company building a future where nothing goes to waste. Their science-led innovation turns plastic waste into high-value materials, starting with a waste-derived adhesive that replaces urea formaldehyde in wood fibre boards. It’s a breakthrough that removes harmful chemicals from the supply chain and brings circularity into one of the world’s largest building materials markets.

Now preparing for its next phase of growth, NILO is expanding global partnerships, scaling R&D, and completing a Series A(2) capital raise. The company is seeking an Independent Board Chair to help guide this transition from R&D to commercialisation.

The Opportunity
This is a chance to lead an ambitious New Zealand company with global impact potential. You’ll help shape NILO’s strategy, strengthen governance, and support the CEO, the Founder and leadership team through a pivotal period of scale. You’ll also play a key role in engaging with investors and partners as NILO moves toward international licensing and deployment.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a Chair who brings a blend of strategic insight, commercial acumen, and enthusiasm for science-driven innovation.

You’ll ideally bring:
  • Proven governance and leadership experience in deep tech, technology-intensive, or start-up environments.
  • Experience with early-stage or scaling ventures
  • Strength in capital raising internationally and investor management
  • Strong financial literacy and ability to oversee risk in innovation-led enterprises.
  • Credibility in materials, clean-tech, sustainability, or adjacent industries
  • A collaborative and grounded leadership style that aligns with NILO’s values
Commitment & Remuneration
Overall, we're expecting a commitment of 15 hours a month. The Board meets monthly, with additional input expected during fundraising or strategic projects. While remote is okay, there will be an annual in-person meeting.  Remuneration is aligned with early-stage ventures.

If you have experience in governance, scaling ventures, and a genuine interest in sustainability and materials innovation, we’d love to talk.
